July 2007

After months of checking Hobby Lobby’s weekly sales, “Yarn Bee Luscious Blueberry” went on sale this week. And not just any sale. It went from $5.88 down to $.99! Exactly what I was waiting for! I woke Stephanie up at 3:00 AM to tell her. She didn’t show it, but she was excited too. The next day, I spent about $150. On Yarn. Everything they had plus 100 skeins on a rain check. I made the clerk’s eyes pop out when I asked for it. She says “You must be making something really big” But no. lots of little things.

More mysteriously vague writing to come…
Then I found out that my credit card was being used by someone to pay 12 different phone bills. One of the charges had a phone number with a local area code listed with the payment, so I called it. Below is the transcribed conversation:

Female Credit Card Thief: Hello?
Innocent But Sexy Victim: Hey, who’s this?
Female Credit Card Thief: Who’s THIS?
Innocent But Sexy Victim: uh…sorry, I have a wrong number.

BUSTED! I didn’t know what to say. After that, she called me right back and hung up immediately. Stephanie points out that I could pay 20 bucks online and get a name to go with it, but then what? I’m already getting reinbursed by Visa. Do I need revenge?

Another stretch of blog neglecting. I’ve been busy. With stuff.

First off, I wanted to mention Stephanie set up a blog and started an etsy shop, where you can buy prints of her Phantom Tampon drawing. Get one for your phantom vagina today!

Last weekend Scott McCloud came for the Missiouri stop on his 50 state tour. I proudly took my busted-ass, decade old copy of Understanding Comics up to Star Clipper for a signature. He was super nice and energetic, despite it being the last leg of the tour. His daughters sat on either side of him, playing video games and reading comics (that’s the good life).

Then we went across the street for the opening of Matt Kindt’s show at Subterranean Books. Very cool. Matt does “Super-Spy” comics and he hides clues and puzzles in his shows, just like his books. Plus, if you follow the clues to the end, you get a surprise.

Then we went back across the street for a showing of Paprika, which was fantastic. Its the best anime since whatever the last thing Hayou Miyazaki did.

So that’s what I’ve been busy with. I know that was only one day, but the weeks before that I was storing up energy.
